Choosing challenging subjects to draw and paint sharpens my skill and transports me to a place where I am so focused I think of nothing else for hours, and where the hours seem like mere minutes. I love being in that place. Although always artistically inclined, it wasn't until 2000 that Debra followed her dream of taking art classes. In 2010 she found a studio in Dobbs Ferry where she began to participate in open studio tours, experience group and solo shows and the thrill of selling her work. In 2015 Debra moved her studio to its present location in Peekskill. Her subjects are still lifes and landscapes in oil, and portraits of people and animals in pencil. She loves painting in oil for its rich color and texture. Her brushwork is often visible in her painting. She enjoys the versatility of pencil, and as she does with oil, likes the medium to show itself.
