About The Artist

Roshi Newman, a lifelong resident of Westchester County and award-winning artist whose work has been shown in numerous exhibitions and galleries and whose pieces are owned in collections internationally from Israel to Japan. Roshi first exhibited approximately 50 years ago at the Garrison Art Center, with shows of her work following at the Decoration and Design Building in New York City and at “Woman and Art NYC.” One-person shows have included the Mari Gallery in Mamaroneck, Somerstown Studio & Gallery in Somers, Stone Ridge Gallery in Pound Ridge and numerous other Westchester venues. Roshi was involved at the inception of Gallery 44 North, a cooperative gallery in Peekskill’s art scene, and she has also participated in several member shows at the Katonah Museum of Art. In 2002 Roshi was invited to show her work in the Westchester Arts Council Open Studio Gala in White Plains. Recent sales have included corporate collections such as Pfizer and Metromedia Fiber. Beyond her shows in several Peekskill and local area galleries she has exhibited in Chicago, New Jersey, Puerto Rico, Cold Spring and Rhinebeck, N.Y. Roshi creates art that is filled with the movement and colors of the world about her. Her feel for the visual rhythms, colors and shapes of nature adds to her work a sense beyond the five senses. She says of her art, “‘Landscapes of the mind,’ or ‘mindscapes,’ are what I call the visual images that I create using interpretations of actual landscapes. These interpretations have been inspired by personal experiences and reflect both my dreams and waking thoughts. My goal is for each ‘mindscape’ to tell a story or relate feelings that provide the viewer with a glimpse into another world. New life experiences continue to add to the depth of my work.”
Current gallery exhibit at 906 South Street, Peekskill, NY. Studio visits by appointment
