Valerie Light

I'm a lifelong visual artist. Right now, I'm mostly a scenic artist by day, illustrator by night, and art teacher in between. As a scenic artist, I'm a member of USA 829 working for the Broadway shops in the Hudson Valley and Connecticut. I teach apprentices and masterclasses in scenic art, especially techniques for backdrop painting. I've worked a lot in set design and props in NYC, as well as on national and international tours. As an illustrator, I work digitally in Procreate, informed by my sketchbook practice in gouache and mixed media. My first book as an author/illustrator, Local Baby Hudson Valley, published in 2023 with Arcadia Children's books. I love to hike and sketch, and would love to join up with a friendly plein air group or two.
