In 2000 Debra casually walked into a storefront art gallery in Dobbs Ferry and found it was also an art school; she signed herself up on the spot and there began her education as an artist. Over the years she has studied with many artists and there has been only one criterion in choosing a teacher – she’s got to be head-over-heels- crazy about their work. Her first teacher was classically trained and so she kept with that tradition. Her subjects are still lifes and landscapes in oil and portraits of people and animals in graphite. Drawing and painting transport her to a place where she is so focused she thinks of nothing else for hours. She loves being in that place and feels so fortunate to have found it. Walking into that storefront gallery/art school changed her life in a big way.
Debra began her journey as an artist in 2000. In 2015 she became part of Peekskill’s vibrant arts community.
Her subjects are still lifes and landscapes in oil and portraits of people and animals in pencil. She is currently studying portrait painting.
She has had several solo exhibitions over the years and is preparing for one in September of 2018 at the Hendrick Hudson Free Library, Montrose, NY
